St Patrick's Day

St Patrick's Day

Image Gallery:

This legendary saint that has put Ireland on the map has a fascinating history.  The shamrock, a three leafed clover became a symbol Ireland as St Patrick would use this to demonstrate the Trinity in his teachings.
There were beliefs that praised St Patrick for banishing snakes from the island, however there was further evidence suggesting that this era never had snakes.  However the snakes could have been referred to as serpent symbols of the Druids of that time and place, these images of serpents were seen minted on coins of this time.
On St Patrick’s travels, spreading the word of God it was told that carried an ash wood stick.  He’d thrust this ash wood stick into the ground wherever he was preaching, and this place would be called Aspatria (ash of Patrick).  The message of his tenets would take so long to get through to people that the stick would actually take root by the time he was ready to up and leave.
